I was detecting around a house built in the 1880's, and out in the field I found what I thought was a piece of buckshot. I dropped it in my bag and forgot about it until yesterday when I was dumping all the trash. I noticed the holes and realized it was a button. I haven't seen one like this before. Seems to be two piece with an in and out hole through it. Any thoughts? It's called a ball button...d2

That is a late 1800s/early 1900s civilian button.

Doesn't look like a typical ball or globe button.
The hole is a type I've never seen.

All the ball buttons I can find on the net have a loop attached to the back. This doesn't look like it ever had a loop.

Nope because it had a strange tunnel loop instead!
