Other than banks and random change, has anyone ever consistantly checked other coin supplies?

I am curious about arcades, candy/ice cream shops, vending routes, or "penny jars" from fund raisers.

Thanks for your replies.

I found a 40% half dollar stuck in the gearshift mechanism of a mid-80s BMW at a junkyard once while looking for parts. When out looking for parts I also check under seats of old junk cars and in ash trays and stuff, usually come out with at least $5 or so. I've found foldin money on a number of occasions too this way.

Have you ever targeted older cars to look for silver?

Must have come from a CRH's car. Another reason to not open rolls in the car while driving. ;D I still have a Mercury dime between my ashtray and shifter I can't get at.

Found 1964 dime in a half box, not inside a roll, but inbetween rolls.

This was talked about a long time ago. We included the church offering plate. Who would be so balzy? Although a silver morgan dollar in the plate would be difficult to pass up.

I found a 1964 quarter embedded in the concreate on a crosswalk. I would of tried to get it, if it wasn't in the middle of the street.

Here's a little known fact,in most grocery stores in the US,you will find penny's that hold the shelfs in place with their backs, as a spacer.I've taken down many shelfs in stores that have gone out of business and we're always finding penny's used as spacers.

I've found a 1944D Merc on the ground by the counter at a IN-N-OUT burger joint in San Diego couple years ago. They must not think it was worth anything or didn't believe it was real money.

Yes indeed! Rooted through many old cars in the yards looking for silver coins or Wheats. Never have gotten lucky doing that though.

The 40%er I found I doubt was from a CRHer but is possible. My theory is that it was a gambler's car. We have many casinos over the border in West Virginia where they still use the half dollar slots, and back two and a half decades ago when this car when the car I found it in was new the 40% coins were still circulating. After the silver price hike from the Hunt Bros. the price plummetted to where a 40% half was basically selling at face so they were used in the casino machines.

When I used to go on road trips I would ask for halves at donut shops. Got keepers from there plenty of times.

I always check the 'got a penny take a penny' tray in stores. I've found lots of good coins there.

Also, my dad owned a junkyard when I was a kid. Pulling out the backseat and checking for coins was the first thing my brother and I did when he'd get a car. We found lots of older, silver coins. Of course we spent them.

pull out a fiver and mumble out loud that you need to make change

I wonder if i shold go to some junk yards and say i need a part and just look for change. lol

my last car had three boxes of loose change spill in the back seat when I slammed on the breaks to miss a guy. There was probably 200$ in change under the carpets that I couldn't get to without pulling it all up after removing the seats.

If I had a place to look for old coins in cars i would take the front seats out and cut the carpets with a box knife.

I found 2 Mercs, a silver Roosevelt, and a gold earring under a coin star machine in a stop & shop, along with a couple bucks in other dirty coins.

We used to superglue a quarter to the floor in a Kmart when I was a kid. The results from shoppers attempt to grab it - hilarious!

I did a 5gal penny jug from my church and found 10lbs in copper and about 80 wheat oh and a 1943 5 pfenning. The oldest wheat was only like a 1939.

Gas stations, i have one in particular where a worker saves me any silver he comes across, i get it for face but i give him a bit more for it.
