Odd spoon

Hello tnet, I found this odd spoon at a 1790's home site. I call it a spoon but I don't really know what it is. It's 4 inches long with slots in it. It is flat and not turned up on the edges like a normal spoon. It's what I would picture an absinthe spoon to be like but it is less ornate than the ones I've seem online. What do you think it's for?

I dont know the metal, but it's not heavy for it's size.

My wife sez - Slat Spoon, used similar to a cooking fork for stirring things. Think pancake batter or scrambled eggs. I think it could also be used to drain the vegetables after cooking, to stop them from falling out of the sauce pan while the water drains out.

My wife collects the old wooden handled kitchen/table forks. Especially the ones with lead trim on the wood.
