Hey guys, went out for a couple of pit digs in the blazing heat and humidity. Reminder to All to stay hydrated. Wow!!!
Started off on the closest one to the circa 1882 home figuring it might be the oldest. Well it was and had a couple McKee based embossed slicks as well as a hinge mold slick. Not much in the way of keepers here but we did manage find a really cool small tag that says Studebaker Brothers mfg on it. Must have been on an early wagon or something. Lots of broken stuff here tho.
Finished up this one as the rains hit for a short time. As it let up we started on the next pit. Rewarded with a couple of Kilmers Swamp Root bottles right off the bat. Then several Foley’s Honey and Tar in various sizes. Pulled out a really small druggist from Polo Illinois which was kinda neat.
Got down to the bottom Gary pulled out a blob beer from Terre Haute Indiana. Not a bad finish for the day. All in All we grabbed a Renoe Specific, some other odds and ends and finished the day with the kind neighbor coming over to see what we were doing and finding. He said “ Hey I have a tote full of bottles you guys can have.” My thoughts were he had Pontils from his mid 1800s home. Ha ha.
He brought it over and it was 99% ABM. Although a couple were really cool. A Holy Water bottle and a Buckinghams Whisker Dye. Pretty cool. The others I brought home and shared with my neighbor for some window bottles like cobalt and amber meds. He ended the conversation with an invite to dig his small property behind his actual property that had a very small home on it circa 1893 or earlier. And that’s how we get permission to dig !!! Lol. Great folks like that who are just interested in the hobby are the folks I like to run in to. Hope you enjoy your treasure hunts and the few pics I took of these digs.
