Picture #2 is a brass Colonial-era barrel tap. :icon_thumleft: :headbang: That is a great relic and one that I am looking for with a passion.

Definitely the back end of an early barrel tap James. Looks like there are still a lot of signals to dig at this place.

look real close at the wider threaded end of the "cleaning jag" does it look to be broken off ? I think it may be a broken ball puller used to remove a musket ball if the powder failed. the notches are to let you know if the musket is loaded.

I agree with the top replies. An old Barrel Tap. Could be early to mid 1700s James.

Nice

There does seem to be 2 seperate concentrations of targets here there may have been an earlier structure than the one pictured in the other post

I thought it may have been a bullet worm at first as well, howeer the rings on the big end are circular and it is not broken nor threaded, Which lead me to believe it may have been a cleaning jag instead, with the rings to help secure the cleaning patch as you pull it trough the barrell?
