the house on the land now is over 300 years old but there was a bigger house bulit in the 1400s and took down before the house which stand now so there is alot of history on this land

Can't you tell from the depth of finds? ie. hammered in strike range, modern stuff deeper etc.. Plough bits, heavy horse shoes, or other farming bits
Thats my point, sounds ploughed (at some point, could be years & years ago). Its something I also look for when falling back on the pasture option.
