it is more of a sharpening stone than a shaft abrader

reason being is the shape of the grooves
the shape of the groove on an abrader (or abraider) is consistent and the groove is the same radius from one end to the other
the grooves on your nice example are kind of tapered showing that it was more than likely used for sharpening items such as bone awls and needles
or polishing things like shell and bone pendants
but is very nice and more rare in my opinion anyhow
and i like it

I was using the word abrading in its literal sense pretty sure it was for bone pins or points. I have a shaft straightener also. thank you for the info just the same

and now i notice that you show the back side which looks more like a shaft abrader than the first image
