Oil soaking

I keep reading about people soaking coins in olive oil for making the dates readable again. Has anyone tried mineral oil? Olive oil, like other edible oils, will turn rancid after a bit. Mineral oil is the only edible oil that will not spoil. I'd much rather handle a coin that can't make you sick!

I only soak crusty IH's using olive oil. It's organic and acidic, and guess what that will do to a nice coin over time.
