So this was found in a plowed field behind the slave quarters of a plantation. At first sight of it (my daughter and I worked hard getting it out) I thought “omg I found part of a sword blade!” Then, nah, can’t be that easy lol So yea, threw it to cook in some vinegar (I think too long), forgot about it, and finished it off in the e-tank. I thought maybe a mower blade of some sort but there looks to be a spot where a screw or some fitting would go. Doesn’t look like pics I’ve found. Thought it was a hoof file, but jogging my memory of them and looking at pics, not that either. I think it’s something to do with farm equipment but can’t figure out what it would be or be called to find it?

It's probably a part of a very old hinge.

It looks like a broken point to a sickle bar type mower?

Don't look like a section of sickle bar knife or guard on any mower I've seen but that doesn't mean it couldn't be somewhere else on the mower or a type I am not familiar with.

Yea I can’t find a pic like it. I did find a sickle bar mower blade something or another thing that I thought was some sort of latch until someone else posted a pic of one found. That’s chunked now lol I wonder what kind of hinge it could be?C63C4DF3-4508-490B-A5AF-EAFBE7C05BA9.webp
Possibly similar to this?

I’m going with strap hinge of some sort.

I agree, I think it’s an old hinge as well. Old enough that I’d hunt that area again.

That is a gorgeous hunk of iron. The texture and color are beautiful. I love old iron. Especially Louisiana old iron. Really pretty.

Ah just saw a pic and made me think....hinge to an old style trunk. Looked kinda sorta similar. We’re definitely going back. Had just found the spot with tons of buried clay and brick, suggesting an old house was there, when we had to call it a day. Different colors than the slave quarters.
