Yes! It's true, after all the struggles I've had this
week in trying to get to my soybean field of dreams.

I say dreams cuz it's a place that really allows me
to dream of treasures and antiquities I see posted
here every day!

I do love this hobby and even finding clad has it's place.
But.......MAN! I really, really love finding the old stuff! :(

Here, in this field I can feel the history around me! I felt it
the first time and every time. Trouble was, this was a corn field.
And, as the nickname that Treblehunter gave me says. I don't
walk too well in them.

First time I went here this season I was shocked to see the remnants of
a SOYBEAN field! NO CORN STUBBLE! I was in heaven! The finds lacked
a bit but I figured that was my inexperience at fields.

So, anyhoo.....I go there today and my very first decent hit was both loud
and good! I dug a PLATE!

Now, ya see, I am not much on relic hunting. But, I simply don't
see what all the hub bub is about finding a plate?! :dontknow:

Moving on I get an unmistakable signal of a penny. I should
know them since I dig soooo many! But, one thing I don't find
in this field are coins! So, I'm a bit excited.

2017 (142).jpg

A zincoln....... :BangHead:

A short time later I get an almost perfect quarter hit!
I allowed myself to think, "OK, here we go!"

2017 (143).jpg

Clad......:BangHead:

I muttered a few words....moved on. It took another
hour but I finally got a really nice hit....quarter type....again! :)
But, I have lost confidence now.

2017 (144).jpg

mutter....mutter....mutter..... I stood up, looked around to
see if I'd made a mistake and stopped at one of my
clad factories by mistake! :BangHead:

2017 (141).jpg

Finally, I had an indication that I'd arrived at the spot where
I'd found some decent buttons and a 2 cent piece before.

Time to get down to business.

An hour and a half later....I finally got a decent hit that sounded
like it was right on top. It was down a couple inches though.
Even though it was mostly a clod of dirt. I could see from the back
that it was a small domed button.

2017 (140).jpg

I decided to just bag it and clean later, carefully.

Next, came this REALLY flat round looking thing.
I mean it's so flat that it's almost sharp on the edges!

2017 (147).jpg

I couldn't make a thing out on it, so, bag and move on.

Next item appears to be a button of some sort but the
back on it seems a bit strange. :dontknow:

2017 (148).jpg

Ya know, it's really kind of frustrating finding things
that you figure are old and interesting but you can't tell
what the heck they are! :dontknow:

And....now.....for the finale'

I was slowly making my way down the field when I
had this thought come to me. It said, "Stop, look around you."

This is a true story, not fiction.

I stopped for a break, looked around at the beauty that
was all around me. Blue skies, large field and I actually said,
"Thanks Lord! I needed that! " BUT.....the urge to "look around me"
became stronger. So, I said, "What, Lord? What am I looking for?"

No, he didn't answer me, directly. LOL
The clouds didn't part and He didn't answer me in a thunderclap. LOL

But, the feeling wouldn't go away. I started looking at the field. I was following
along an edge of a large hill that I knew was mostly fill dirt. But then I saw it,
There was a run off type ditch that had opened up at the base of this hill.

From what I'd researched, this was close to where an old farm road ran.
It dawned on me that the "crack" was probably where the dump had sort
of separated from the original ground.

So, I moved a few feet to my left and jumped across the crack.
(Not huge but bigger than I could step)

I started swinging and turned to my right to try and trace what
I felt might be where the road used to be. On my very first swing,
AS I pivoted to turn south and go on, and at the very end of the swing to
my left, I caught what seemed like a fair signal, but a bit broken. Being
at the end of the swing. I stopped, tried again. Better. But the ground
was so stubbly it was difficult to tell. I used my foot to smooth out
the ground and tried again. There it was , a definite dime hit! Yep,
that was exactly what I called it! But, after the clad today. I wasn't
expecting this:

2017 (145).jpg

I actually held my breath.

2017 (146).jpg

I actually exclaimed aloud and LOUDLY,
SEATED! And then I did exactly that! I sat down!

I couldn't believe the way this move across the small chasm
and the catching of the signal at the extreme end of a swing
as I was turning in another direction, had unfolded.

I was astounded! I know I've said I believe, but.....when one
gets tapped on the shoulder like this, it does something to
ya!

I thanked Him, carefully placed my treasure in it's own little
baggie and turned off the machine and walked on the clouds
all the way back to my car! Didn't even try to top it! :)

Here's the finds after some cleaning:

Love those field dug seated. Another field of dreams in waiting?

Awesome hunt!

Hope you remembered where you dug it- has to be more!!

Thanks!

I just gotta ask, though. Why? Just because I found one coin, does that HAVE to mean there's more? :tongue3:

Ain't it strange? I not only find a beautiful rendition of a seated dime BUT,
I find one of the ones that was only made 3 years! How strange is that! LOL

Great post and Sweet finds!! That seated is just wicked Sweet and being from Maryland, that Maryland button is Awesome. I found one of those myself a couple years ago.
I told you your good deed helping your neighbor the other day would bring you good karma your next trip to the soybean field. Lol
Congrats on an Awesome day!!

Great looking piece of old silver, congrats.

Congratulations on the Seated Dime! :icon_thumright: I really enjoyed you story and hearing about what was going through your head on the way to finding that dime. It's very much like what I think about as I try to dial into the imagined past of my hunting sites.

Funny. But, that's what the used car salesman told me too. ;)
So, no matter how many are pulled, they just grow back. right? :tongue3:

Every 50 years - a clone sprouts within 10 yards. Do the math :laughing7:
