I found this map and I need some help on the cipher. I have spent countless hours on it and have come up short. "Shocking". I can't figure this out and need some help and guidance from any of those who can please. All I know is that it is a possible treasure map scratched on the inside of an old packet watch by a supposed outlaw at the time. At this point I am simply trying to give the allaged map a simple validation. Can anyone shed any info the etching please?
Attached is a drawing, an inverted color image and the original.

P.S The V.W. are belived to be initials. But not entirely certain.

Hey thanks vpnavy. I am well versed in OK lore. Names like Steve Wilson, W.C. Jameson M.L.C. and many others that are my proverbial bibles. It's funny how just one state can keep anyone pre occupied for a lifetime seemingly. This one is has Dalton written all over it my opinion. Thanks again.

Did you ever get help with this request? i've been visiting the oklahoma historical library for the last 40 years, reviewing early news paper clippings of Oklahoma outlaws and ;\lost treasures, but without some history of the watch it maybe hard to put a possible physical place with an event. Good Luck, love to help if I could. Respectully. Liberty5601

The Dalton gang robbed a Mexican gold train in southwestern Oklahoma, transporting it up to mid-northern Oklahoma territory where it was buried with a old winchester rifle pointing to the stash while being hung in tree. when Frank was placed in prison after the failed bank robbery, he was the last of the gang whom knew the locations. He was released in early 1900's,returned to area to finf the stash, but terrain had changed due to great flood and he and his team were unable to find it. Even the rifle was gone.. I've been trying to finf this area myself but without a decent detector, its impossible. Respectfully, Liberty5601

Interesting story, a lot of us do not find these items. could this be the watch recovered from the Dalton find in Caddo county, oklahoma? Respectfully, Liberty5601

Interesting, but I think the meaning is known only to the person that etched it...Just my thoughts... Geo
