Hello Everyone, I am new to this hobby and new to this site so please be kind.:hello:

I found this item while scanning an old Oregon 1 room schoolhouse site dated 1910-1915. Ironically I found it above ground on my preliminary walk through of the area. Its got me stupefied as to what it is but I know it sure looks kewl. The item is 4.5 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The designs are identical on both sides(other side is a little dirtier). It rings in at 26-30 on my Garrett AT Gold. It is quite heavy and my first thought would be iron. There appears to be a gold (or yellow) color showing through after my first initial cleaning which has me a little more curious. My initial thoughts are it is some some of flagpole ornament but that's just a guess.

Any help in assisting me in ID'ing this would be appreciated. Also searching for the best way to clean in up. My initial cleaning was done in an apple cider vinegar bath. Thanks all.

Jim

That is part of an old shutter hinge, I just installed some on a building here last week.... Yours was pretty ornante and would have been on a pretty nice house or building. I'd definitelt hunt the area some more.

I'm inclined to disagree and suggest it is part of an old wall mounted gas lamp bracket.

OMG, Thank you all for the welcome and the ID. I was sold on NOLA_Ken's ID of it being shutter hardware though I was having a bit of difficulty seeing it on an actual shutter. I think Mud Hut nailed it though. After examining the item, I can see where it was broken off where it connected to the larger piece. The underlying color is also a dead match with the color of the picture. So I would have to go with the fact that it is part of a Wall Mounted Gas lamp Bracket.

NOLA_Ken, thank you for getting the thread rolling and getting others involved.

Mud Hut, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.......you NAILED it and with a supporting pic to boot. You wouldn't happen to know the age of that bad boy? :)

This was my first trip to the site and will be going back on Sat.

Thanks again everyone,
Jim
