I went out for an hour before work and found this ax about 5 inches down. VDI said 76 on my DFX. The wording on it say's "MWH Co Hand Made. I believe the ax dates back to the 1800's. I'll be doing some research. Our city was started back in 1827 with the largest lumber mill under 1 roof in the US. I was able to contact an expert from the Missoula, MT, Dept of Technology US Forest Service.
He said a company made this axe prior to 1915 by the name of Marshall Wells Hardware Co in Duluth, MN. He said this is an awesome find. The best axe company made this axe. There were other companies but no one was as good as Marshall Wells Hardware. Co. He is sending me more information for my display.
