Found this at the dirt market over the weekend... definitely not my area of expertise but it was only a buck and it had no cracks or chips.

First, the leather looks old. But then again, maybe leather would look like this if you left it out for a year, I have no idea!

I do see some sort of writing inside though. Maybe someone has an idea what it is?

need to know the size, it might have hung over a shop door if it's small enough. Was thinking the writing might be a good luck charm for the owner. Getting the writing translated would be helpful.

The bell itself is just under 5" across and right at 3" tall.

How would I go about figuring out what the writing is?

that's the hard part, without knowing what language it is to start with finding a translation gets pretty hard. Are there and Asian people around town that you deal with? A store owner maybe, or a neighbor? While they may not be able to translate it for you they may be able to at least give you an idea what language it's in.

Looks like the bells my greatgrandfather had on his goats.Looks like Chinese writing to me which may be hard to find someone to decipher it because there were old styles as well as different Province's
