Can anyone identify this badge or buckle?
It was found in a street reconstruction project where all the coins pre-dated 1892. (Most were from the 1860's to 1880's).
The loop in the middle may have held a ribbon or tassel. The town where it was found was famous for their marching band during the 1860's. The seated liberty and patriotic image hints that it may be from the civil war time period.
The badge is 3" by 2" brass, and has 4 small lead solder spots on the reverse side as though it was fastened to something.
