Hi everyone! Hope the finds are coming strong!
Today my mom and I detected near a discontinued train track (discontinued in 70s I think, and I've found wheaties and other older things there, so these might be old). I found two items I can't quite identify after hours googling. First up is a button: It's big, 1 11/16" in diameter (what in the heck is that supposed to button btw??!) It's bulk is a kind of plastic that I'd call "tortoise shell" rather than "amber"; and the circle disc near the middle appears to be copper or bronze. It's translucent though that may not show up in the scan (don't have a camera so scans are all I can present). It doesn't have any seams.
I tried the "bakelite" test (that I found on internets) of running it under hot water then sniffing it for a formaldehyde smell but have no idea if I smelled anything unusual. My second test was a very brief and small rub with "scrubbing bubbles", and the paper towel I used turned yellow, so it may indeed by bakelite.
The second thing is a "Play Money" coin, that also says "Five" on the bottom, and a "5" in the middle. I looked up play money on the internets but didn't see mine. It seems pretty old. Sorry if the scan doesn't show things clearly. The back of it has no images/engravings/intaglio whatsoever, don't know if that's because it was eroded away or what. It's very thin.
Anyway we had a great time. Mom found a very cool toy gun, and we each found a diamond! Granted, the diamonds were plastic, but still!
Here are pictures if I can attach things right, front and backs:
