Found these yesterday while rehunting a mid 1800s farmstead. The large one is W H Jones and company. 1835 to 1840. 11/16โ€ in diameter.

I think your Benedict and Co. /extra button is older. From 1823-1829 it was A. Benedict. he had several silent partners In 1829 Benedict was joined by Israel Coe and others. in 1834-43 he replaced Coe with Burnham. During that period they likely switched from one to two piece button
The only time frame I can see your button coming from is the 1823-1829.
But, your Benedict & Co./extra backmark does not show up in any of my references. It may take some more research to find your particular backmark.
Good luck with it.

Merf,
What do you put in the rock tumbler mix to clean the buttons? Soap and water? Aquarium gravel?
Thanks,
MM
I put in a couple of drops of dish soap and from 1/4 to 1/2 oz of white vinegar. With water just to the top of the gravel, Depending on the condition and quantity of items to be cleaned. I used 1/4 oz of white vinegar and dish soap for 30 minutes to clean these buttons. Been doing this for 20 years. A lot of guesswork and experimentation. Pics of my tumbler. Small rocks.
