looks like window sash chain

Some old locks had that type of chain to keep the lock with the door,

It's also the kind of chain that is used on entry doors to prevent from swinging out to wide when the wind hits them, or whatever.

EDIT: Update - That style of chain is called "Plumbers Chain".

Sashchain maybe....
Multiple uses.
Coal furnaces used them from upstairs for the damper/draft.

This is a commercial hardware chain that had many different uses in the late 19th - early 20thc.
I have seen this chain pictured in my 1908 Sears Roebuck Catalogue.

It's described as 'Toilet Pull Chain'... used for flushing the water tank that hung above early toilets.
