That is a beautiful old church. I just love old stone buildings. They have more character than the modern buildings do.

Super old town !!! Tons of history!! I got to tect the park for short hunt (only clad) then it rained

Grant park? I thought the park area down by the river and railroad tracks would be good too. Hard to believe river boats used to come up that river!

An old school there also

This is the old high school lol couldn't fit it all in the shot.

I know this place well...grew up there and graduated HS then joined the USAF. The old high school turned into the Galena middle school (went to 5th & 6th grade there), it's now an apartment house called "Galena Greene". My cousins own it and manage the very nice apartments. It overlooks the old town below. When I was young (12ish), I did A LOT of detecting with my Dad in Galena...we found our share of neat stuff but it's been hunted so hard, that it's hard to find much anymore...no place is ever hunted out and Galena has it's share of history, no doubt ... still, when metal detecting became popular in the late 70's & 80's, there was one guy who detected this town everyday I swear! Dad said he cleaned it out but I still find myself at the town park when I'm home, hoping he left me something
