Hello everyone! I want to start by saying that I am new to the forums but I have used this site a few times because of all the very useful info found on here. I am also fairly new to metal detecting but I am absolutely hooked on it! While metal detecting yesterday in Stonington CT, those who are unfamiliar with the area may be more familiar with the town Mystic, CT. Stonington is right next to Mystic, practically the same town. With that said, I found a rather old coin yesterday, it is very worn down, the back side of the coin is to worn to even read. It was found about 6"-8" under the ground and I'm looking for everyone's expertise on the identity of the coin. The only things I can make out on the face of the coin are a portrait of a head (facing right) and the letters "US" (may be "UE") in the 11 o'clock position. So... Any ideas people? Thanks again for all the useful info!

Looks like 1800's copper. Maybe a draped bust (penny)? WAY cool!

Could you tell us the letters that are there just left of the chip on the top. Hard to see in the photo

Awesome find! If you can, try to get some better detailed pics, maybe a little closer and some more lighting. That would definitely help in identifying that unit. Good luck..HH ! ddf

BTW... If the reverse shows the position of her arm you can narrow down the date possibly confirming it's 1600s.

7 years here and I am still waiting to hit the 1800's too. I am down to 1904 and have a 1720's-30's KG that Ironpatch ID'd for me not too long ago, but I'm missing a whole century in the middle there lol
