Detector(s) used
Excalibur 1000 NATO - Explorer SE
I was hoping I could get some input on what the older Indian cents, large cents, old coppers, and barber series coins would show up on the display of the SE and the sounds they would make compared to todays coins (clad).
Should I be looking and listening for the usual coin signals?

I'm about 1 month into the SE now and feel pretty good finding coins.
Yesterday I found my first silver quarter 1943!
It was such a beautiful sight seeing it pop out of the ground.
Now I know what you guys are talking about with the silver coins in the dirt feeling when you see it!
I also found a silver pendant about 4 feet away right after.

Can anyone offer some insight?
Thanks,
Chase

Due to the differences in the tonal quality of the speakers, the tones can be different between detectors. Icons and numbers can differ too depending on the coins orientation to the coil, depth, and size coil. Any answers you get from other SE users may be taken in a general nature. The usual coin sounds will do for most older coins, but then again they can also sound like bottle caps or pull tabs. Each SE can operate a little differently in different locales. Just learn what your SE is doing and dig about everything to get a better idea as to how it responds where your at. I am sorry I can't be more specific, but that is metal detecting.

Good Luck.

Yep, get too cute and you'll miss as much as you find. The more you detect the more you will realize how many neat things there are the find that hit where a common modern coin comes in. To get your % better researching sites that didn't last into modern times is the way to go.

IH most of the time will read clear to the right and about half way up the screen.I have found that they show up on the screen in about the same place on my se and my explorer 2.
Old nickles as well as new ones read about the same as shotgunshells only they have a slightly different tone.
Depending on the soil and corrosion, they can read a little differently..If in doubt dig it out!!!!!!
