Hi Don. Good finds. :icon_thumright: I'm no expert on buttons but it looks like a 2 piece. It looks close to the one listed Leighs button sight. http://www.civilwarbuttons.com/uscentrlist.htm
see uc090. Also i inverted the color through Paint and you can see more detail.
The pin, haven't found much yet, still looking. It looks familiar. I'm sure someone will come up with an answer.

I think I found it. It's in Crouch's book, i knew it looked familiar. Harness or saddle ornament.

JB, no I can not tell. I do have it sitting in oil and maybe it will bring some of the detail back.
