Old farm Tool From Iowa barn

Anybody know for sure what this old tool might be used for? The tips are filed very sharp. Must be for cutting roots, or something requiring foot power. Found in an Iowa barn, owner thought it was for cutting loose hay. Does not seem right to me.

First glance it looks like a part of a wagon jack. Not for cutting hay, I've seen those, and they don't even resemble your find.

Ever tried to cut a corn stalk? No? You'll need a tool like that one.

I would like to give you a like on this, but there is no way to do it, at least right now there isn't. I've chopped corn stalks with a hoe, and that works pretty good, but you are right, someone is using foot power to cut corn or some other garden produce. Roots or something that heavy it wouldn't work, corn it should work pretty good.
