Old gun?

Hi im new to detecting i have a garret ace 250, just started hunting and found this. It looks like an old gun but im not sure so I decided to put in on here. Need help identifying. Also hope i attached this pic right.

It does have the look of an old boot pistol, you'll need to clean it up a bit though to see what's under that rust.

How exactly do I go about cleaning it? Was afraid of destroying it.

try soaking it in apple cider vinegar for a while
