Isn't it funny how one of the most common finds we make can turn out to be one of the most interesting too. We've all found these utilitarian, everyday relics, on old home sites but just occasionally we find one that really stands out and yesterday was that day for me. But anything with writing on it gets me excited! :tongue3: Earlier this year I found a unique looking 'Hail Columbia' suspender disc featuring an eagle on it, but it was missing the portion that attached to the button. :BangHead:

Let me start by telling you how I found this site. Most of you may not know this, but I research a series of nine 19thc. atlas' that were produced here in the Province of Ontario between 1865 - 1878. These were produced primarily with the intention of educating school children and adults in the 19thc. On the areas where they lived, worked, built homes and eventually died. Yesterday I was fortunate enough to be driving by just as the farmer was harvesting the soy bean crop, so I stopped, and we chatted a bit about the history of the property. When I asked him for permission to detect he immediately said, “sure go right ahead”.

What you see here is the result of 4hrs of detecting. My first find was an 1859 Canadian LC, followed by the 1908 LC, after that it was button, button, button… you get the idea! :laughing7:

I’m hoping to get back again this weekend, thanks for looking!
Dave

Perfect timing and sweet hunt! New sites always can my heart pumping. The plat maps you're talking about are the BEST!!!!! CONGRATZ...

That is a nice suspender clip, but I really like those Canadian Large Cents.

Very nice hunt and that suspender clip is too cool.

Well done on the coppers and the other relics Dave, looks like it will be another site that will give up some more nice keepers in the future.

It's always fun to dig an early Canadian LC, they almost always hit in the 78-79 range of the Dues vdi. :laughing7:

Thanks Relicific, the scripted style of the word 'Patent' is what I really like.

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Thanks for your post Prospector. :icon_thumright:
I did a bit of a walk around the site, from hill where I took the photo from it was about a 1/4 of a mile.
The iron spread on this site is huge, likely due to being pounded by plows over the years.

Thank you Coppersmith, thankfully it responded favorably to manipulation. :laughing7:

Thanks for your post Kevin.
I have a sinking feeling this site has sustained major damage due to being irrigated to improve drainage a few years ago. :icon_scratch:
I'll try to think positively that there are other relics to be found here, as there's literally a ton of iron here.
Dave

congrats on the finds!

Thanks for your words of support Ms. BB. :hello:
The "little round jeweled item" is actually a glass & brass button from a ladies blouse and dates to the mid-Victorian Period c.1870.

Hope you're having a great year yourself,
Dave

Great research! It's really paying off! Congrats:icon_thumright:

Thanks Digger, I'll head back again on Sunday morning and will post anything of interest.
Dave

Thanks Jim,
Having drainage hoses put in a few years ago combined with the amount of plow damage, it's definitely proving to be a challenge. :BangHead:

But I Deus and I are up to the challenge, :laughing7:
