Old Homesite question?

I have a half dozen old homesites that I search, and a few of them have these pipes sticking out of the ground near the foundation. Does anyone know what they are or what they were used for?

old well maybe? how deep are they drop a rock down them and listen for it to hit water

it's a roof vent pipe for a OUTHOUSE, keep diggin !! im 60 an i still dig it !
