I have seen these before. I think they were called phlems, a tool that was used by early doctors and surgeons for the letting of blood from patients.

Couldn't find anything on "phlems". Are there pic of that?

Just googled old bloodletting in early medicine. The phleme(fleme) was the instrument that held a spring loaded lancet that was used to open the vein and drain whatever amount f blood the doctor, or in most cases the local barber deemed necessary. Not my idea of a haircut.

Think you mean fleam. I see what you mean but those were one sided and didn't arc across like the posters pic. But you could be on to something!
