Old Methods of finding gold

I like to work on old legends. I was told a story about how a man survived the depression with the gold he found. I was showed where his body was found. I spend part of two summers searching that area. It was 64 square miles. I only found one spot with gold..Art

When spring water runs from the mountains on the E side of LA, it goes down the streets through some towns covering it curb to curb.

When you are walking along the sidewalk or in a bare dirt field look for accumulations of black sand and spread the black sand out and look at it with a multiplier. See if there is any micro gold in it. That stuff is everywhere....Art

Hello Arthur,

Tell us the rest of the story--if you found the spot with gold--the only spot in dozens of square miles--was it placer or lode?
Was it a pocket of gold or was it "slim pickins"?

Old way of finding gold

Now I recall an old method of finding gold--Jason stole the golden fleece--he was stealing the
sheep skins from the bottom of the sluice boxes of the hard working placer gold miners.

Now I come to think of it--isn't that what the Spanish did when they encountered the Aztec and Incas

It was in a sand wash so it was placer gold

That was a serious search if you had a search area of approximately 64 square miles and you worked the area down to finally pin pointing the location.
Certainly you showed persistence!

Oh, Thursday I will be leaving on a trip for a family reunion, on the E coast and won't be home until sometime during the following week. Thought I'd better say something, because last year didn't, then one person got upset about not getting a map dowsed they posted for me.

HAVE FUN RED….It’s summer. I too am in and out this time of year. Sorry if people are in a hurry

Yes, it will be good to have a change of scenery for a few days.:coffee2:

Art, sometime in the past someone posted a picture of a certain type of weed that grew where there is gold. The weed looked to be at least knee high and had a nodule on the stem that formed supposedly because of nearby gold. At that time I did not think much about it but now wish I had saved a photo of it. Don't remember who posted it either.
I have tried asking the question to trail hunters about how the Spanish found the '' dig here spot '' but no luck so far except what you have here.:coffee2::coffee2:

I heard the same thing about gold and moss.

I just talked to an old prospecting friend from the Reno area. They have had 5 or 6 flash floods in his area this month. He is checking the Drain pipes that run under the streets. Those corrugated pipes make pretty good slices and can trap gold...Art

COOL

Hey Lala. I have read your posts. When looking for gold it is good to know how gold has move over the last millions of years. It does no good to look in places where it could not be found. As you learn you will be drawn to these areas. It is not luck but knowledge that will lead you..Art
