Well, I went back to the mill site with my 3 boys, and low and behold, the first signal I received I dug. Out popped an 1899 Barber quarter from perhaps 10" down in the roots. I called my wife on the cell phone and took pics. Then I rescanned the dirt prior to filling in and got another good signal. By golly, a 1900-S dime! Two coins from one hole. Then it started to rain and the boys wanted to go home, so we hiked the mile back to the car. So now I know I am in the right spot, and must return many times to get a total feel for the site. Terrific coins! That site looks pretty brushy & rooty (is that a word?). Way to dig em up! Congrats on a couple good ones.

Good deal. I read your other post and was thinking you weren't going to find much. Glad you did - and some nice ones!

Your kids look cute.

Bob

And the good part is that I have just barely started hunting the site, perhaps spent 1 1/2 hrs total hunting (hard with the boys sometimes). Lots to cover still. I think the mill itself probably stood on the other side of the creek. I was hunting the big washout side, just above the washout. Someone must have sat down and lost the coins. This mill dates back to 1860 and ran to about 1910. There is really no junk signals at all, which is great. Like I said, the coins were the first hole I dug. The second was a piece of iron. I dug about 2 other times and they turned out to be no-seeums. Thanks for the comments, Bryan

Yipee is right! Glad to hear your mill site is starting to give up a few of it's treasures ;)

Take care & HH!

I agree, while looking at your other post I did not see much coming from that site. Glad I was wrong.

Did you find the coins anywhere near the hoe?

Very cool finds, congrats.

Yes, perhaps 15' from the hoe.

Very nice finds, and I feel your pain; it's hard to detect the way you'd like with the kids in tow. I do it often with one, sometimes two, and I had to learn a few tricks. A portable potty is just one! ;D It's better now that they're a little older, but nothing beats a solo session!

Awesome finds. ;D

I have taught them how to use the 'toilet' in the wild. Perhaps a couple rocks spaced apart or a couple logs :) The kids brought their fishing poles with them so they could fish. They carried their poles in backpacks. Unfortunatley, my middle boy lost the top half of his pole on the hike in, so I rigged up a stick for him. We have fun, but like you said, nothing beats a solo session. I am still working on that. :)

OH YEAH ~ that's awesome! WGT!!!! WOOHOO!!!

Just Fun in the woods!!
