Old or not?

I found this at a 1840 house buried near a rockwall leading to house anyone know what it is? It's very heavy / has threaded bottom and a hole in the side opposite handle

It is the inside a fluid on and off valve imo. I'd also say it does look like something from the 19th century to me. Looks like it was a pretty well made valve of its day.

The threads on the bottom lean me towards a gas valve.

My guess is that it is part of wine barrel valve (bung hole valve) or similar:

Try vintage toilet flush handle...

Old...around turn of the 19th - 20th century making it an antique or very close.

The threaded portion is for the backing plate washer and nut.

The side hole in the shaft is for the lever rod assembly.
