Old park gives up an LC

Hunted about three hours or so today. Man it was hot. Anyway I found 5+ dollars in clad, a nice silver ring and a drilled Large Cent. The LC is pretty toasted. All I can make out is the wreaths on the back. This my first drilled coin. Still old stuff out there just have to take it slow.

Nice bunch of finds! I once found a huge jar of drilled large cents at a antique store, the owner told me he got them off an old barn roof where the farmer had drilled the LC's to use as washers as the were cheaper than paying 3 cents a piece to buy copper washers.

From what I had read, it was pretty common to use old large cents as washers after the intro of the small cents made them virtually worthless. Other uses were coat checks and advertising.
