I found this old cut glass perfume bottle last week while out shopping at second hand stores. It had just came out on the cart to be put out. The moment I saw it I knew it was something good. I grabbed it before the crowd gathering around the cart could. upon closer inspection I saw that it had English hallmarks. When I got home I started researching the marks. It is from Birmingham, England and was made in 1904 by W. J. Myatt and Company LTD. There is one similar by a different maker on ebay for $400.00, but haven't been able to find anything by Myatt. It has a white residue in side that I have been trying to clean. I have used vinegar with some BBs and then I tried lemon Juice. I have read in the bottle forum that lime away can be used, but I am concerned that lime away might ruin the silver ring around the bottle. The ring and lid is attached securely and I cant take it off. Has any one had to clean anything like this before. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Grundestoun,

Very nice piece. Did you see these:

W J MYATT & CO LTD STERLING & CRYSTAL JAR : Lot 81483 ~~~ How about SILVER TOPPED DRESSING TABLE JAR - WJ MYATT - 1907/8 HALLMARKED - EX COND | eBay

As far as cleaning goes, I would never use BB's. You might try 12 or 14 gauge copper wire cut to small pieces with some BarKeepers Friend & water. Shake like you were playing the maracas...

Nice find. I just posted a bottle that I used lime away and some copper shot to clean. Seems to have worked pretty well on mine but I have no idea what it would do to silver. The best thing I've ever used was some cheap toilet bowel cleaner. Just make sure you wear gloves. It has a pretty good amount of acid in it. Please don't take this as professional advice by any means. Just what I have done in the past. If it doesn't want to come off and you are just gonna display it a coating of mineral oil inside and out does wonders to make it shine. HH
