old scovill mfg button

So i made it out on a hunt today and found this button from what i can find online its a new york button. It says *scovill mfg co* waterbury on the back. Sorry about the crappy pics but there from my phone because my comp crashed. Yea thats the one. I was a little confused when trying to date it because the info talks about"*"and"."and rings of dots around the makers mark outside and inside. Mine has"*" and a ring of dots inside the makers mark. Either way i wasnt expecting to find it in a yard i was digging modern change from

One thing I have found over the years is to expect the unexpected. I detected a site that was a town dating back to the 1870's and dug large cents and colonials dated late 1700's to very early 1800's.

I think that some of those Scovils Mfg Co. Waterbury backmarks are Civil War era too. I've dug some NY buttons with that backmark in a couple Civil War camps. Nice finds!

The house was built in the 1800's. I only had about 30 min to do a quick test run and i found that button and $1.45 in modern change so who knows. If i get access to a comp ill post some better pics

Typically, the ones that are CW and earlier have "WATERBURY CT", not just "WATERBURY"

I was born in Waterbury and live about three miles from
the old Scovills plant. It was once a giant brass mill about
a mile long, now its a shopping mall. Most of the relatives
on my fathers side of the family worked for Scovills.
