Went to the old farm again today. With the melting snowpack and 1 1/2 inch of rain on Thursday, things were soggy at best. Couldn't go where I wanted to again, last week snowpack, today standing water on the ground. So, we worked one of the areas we worked last week where the ground was drier. Found some buttons we missed last week. I took some pics of the cellar hole and what I think might be the well.
South end of the cellar. The rocks have been pushed toward this end and are piled up.
A portion of the cellar still lined with rocks. See the mossy area.
Maybe the old well?
First Button: General Service Eagle. Unfortunately, it fell apart while cleaning. Back mark reads: Scovills MF'G CO. Waterbury. This would be 1850-1865 according to my back mark sheet.
Next, a Tombac button. Doesn't look like it's a spun back.
A flat button. Nothing on the front. "Standard Orange Gilt" on the reverse.
A nice small cuff button with fancy on the face. "EXTRA COLOUR" on the reverse.
Portion of a Bell?
Some type of buckle. I was thinking from suspenders.
This is pewter, I think. Kind of reminds me of a shield for horse tack.
Some type of decorative pin.
Over toward the newer house from the mid to late 1800's, I came across a 1948 Wheatie.
Also, over by the newer house, this came out of the hole, thought for sure it was a copper. Wasn't to be.
It's some round copper thingy.
All-in-all, wife and I had fun even though everything was saturated. Looking forward to going back next week.
