Old Soldier What type?

First of all, this dude is in his late 70's, and he goes to our church, and he really is sweet and funny and very serious. His name is Don Thompson, but we just call him Mr. T. Every holiday or significant military event, he either wears a hat or will come in full uniform (minus the gun). This is how he was dressed Sunday July 5th. The uniform is very light weight muslin, and the knives and other accouterments are authentic. He IS of Scottish descent...........NGE

The powder horn was custom made for him by a guy well known in Michigan, that's his initials on the horn....NGE

That's what I thought, but he said he left his long gun home, we didn't have much time to chat. I'll go to his home sometime this week and find out.......NGE

Early Frontiersman? Mountain Man type? He looks like he'd have a small log cabin built into the side of a mountain somewhere across the Mississippi circa...1750 or so. A Daniel Boone type.

He's a cool dude, and he's dressed similar to an 1830's trapper. He's wearing a nice frock coat. The pants don't match and I can't see the shoes, but since he's going to church he might have wanted to dress up a little. He'd fit in pretty good up here at Bent's Fort. You could wear a lot of leather clothes, but after you got it wet you would probably prefer wool up here, if you could get it. I bet Mr. T has some pretty nice quill worked items somewhere.

I kinda thought this would be an interesting post, and I am sure that Mr.T would enjoy reading the replies to it. He is computer illiterate and does not own one. That's cool nge to show him our responses. Who made his frock coat and is it muslin or linen? I'm Scots-Irish (Not Scotch. Scotch is a drink) and American Indian. And a bunch of other things mixed in. He probably has some pretty cool stories and if you hear them let us know.

I have an original hudson bay wet stone to go with his knife. Love the way he did the hilt on that stag. He kinda looks like some guys I bump into during the primitive hunts here in the mountains of Tennessee. Looks like my kinda guy and would enjoy a snort and hear his life adventures. Looks Lutheran.
