Spent a couple hours at an old spring this morning. The spring was a favorite stopping spot for Indians and early settlers. The rock face is covered in rock art and Victorian era graffiti. Had high hopes but only came across some old tin, broken horse shoes, nails and some lead.
Keep searching! How much water is coming out of this spring? I'm sure it wasn't just for drinking, but for bathing as well after a long time on horseback. They had to have dropped something, maybe widen you're search? GL HH Mike
If it's an obvious known historic stopping spot (ie.: no secret to the history books), then it was likely hammered by yesteryear hunters (1970s, '80s, '90s, '00s, etc...)
Don't know how much if any traffic has been to it since the early 1900s. I used a reference from a late 1800s story book to find it. Just over a mile bushwhack from the nearest trail. The wall with all of the carving was completely covered with dirt, brush and moss. The stink from the sulfur is what gave its location away.
