Old star badge with chain

I'm not sure what this is. The star has a letter on each point that spells Texas and a cross in the middle. I kept looking and found most of the chain. Each link on the chain has a copper bead that is just a piece of flat copper (with a flower design stamped in it) and then it is rolled up to make a circle. It appears to have different types of metal content, but I'm no expert. Some is silver looking and some is brass or gold looking.

I think it is part of a fraternal order sword hanger chain. Odd fellow, Knights of Pythias, etc.
