old sword

I am not sure but to me it does look a lot like a 1790s British Calvary sword, light Calvary. Again I am not sure and I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction but that is what it looks like to me. I hope it helps or gives you a bit of a lead.

That's a very strange coincidence, HammerHead, because I was just looking at that very sword a few hours ago, and there IS a striking resemblance--I'm really glad you came up with that!
The only major difference I saw was that there were some metal "tabs" that extended over the handle portion, but it's entirely conceivable that these could have rusted off long ago. Thanks again, HammerHead!
