I recently acquired this old sword at a flea market. (Just kidding!) It was purchased from a dealer.
I just had a couple of questions about it:
1) Does anyone know an approximate number of these swords still out there for sale?
2) What is the significance of the etching on the blade, i.e. officer's sword, calvary sword, etc.
Th 20230831_110118.jpg20230831_110647.jpg very much!

Looks to be an M1850 CSA Foot Officers Sword. The design is just that a design to add to the look.

What documentation did you get with the purchase? I'm no CSA sword expert but I'm sure others will chime in if it's legit or not. The font would be an indicator.

Two independent appraisers including a certified ISA appraiser have certified this sword as absolutely genuine.

That is one beautiful sword.
CSA makes it that much sweeter.
(I know you know but if not don't mess with it or polish it or anything)

This is a real Beauty of a sword. You were smart to have this authenticated before purchase. As said, the fact that this sword is a Confetrit' sword makes it all the more rare and personal Historical piece. Congrat's to you all around. The stories this sword could tell. This looks great displayed on your mantle piece. 🇸🇴

Thank you very much! I've been relic hunting for over 50 years and as the kids couldn't care less about all the buttons, plates, coins, etc. I had accumulated, I kept a few special ones and sold the rest to purchase the sword. I am really enjoying it and after I'm gone they can sell it and hopefully pocket a little change between the two of them! Not yet though! Thanks again!!!

P.S. Although the blade is showing some "freckling" I DARE NOT TOUCH IT! Only a tiny bit of leather conditioner on the grip after checking with the seller and two appraisers.

Glad to hear it's legit, so many fakes are on the market.

Are there any makers marks on it? What's the history of it?

I think it is Nashville Plow Works as the thread title alludes to with NPW......

No makers marks, but the sword has been authenticated as made by" Thomas A. Sharp and James M. Hamilton at their factory on 8th Avenue in Nashville until the city fell to the Union forces in early 1862."
Thanks.

Another NPW sword - took me a while to "get" the name of the company.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo
