Does anyone have any idea what this metal tag is or what for. It says R. F. Tackaberry , which the best I can tell was a holster , gunbelt maker and maybe made other leather goods. I cant figure out what it would be for or what it is made of. It seems like it is made of lead topped with brass or copper. Any help is appreciated.

It’s odd though that he only used one R in Tackaberry on the stamping on that holster above.

Those badges were typically found on harnesses and trunks. I have dug a few over the years.. one of my favorite things to find! Congratulations on that recovery!

Thanks for the help , that gives me something to look into now. I am still surprised at the metal it is made of , it looks like lead with copper or brass on top , not really plated but pressed together or something . Has anyone else found material like this?

Thanks for the tips Creskol . So I did a little research based on your ideas and I cant seem to find something like this for a trunk, but I looked into the horse harness . I am leaning now towards it being a Lead filled stud horse brass , does that sound about right ? I havent been able to pinpoint an exact match but that seems the closest so far. Looking at the back it looks like there was another brass stud that was torn out near the tip and off center.

I have seen them on harnesses and leather trunks, but never on a saddle. Most saddlers were master leather workers.

Thanks for the picture creskol, that looks like the same type thing for sure just a different maker. So far I cant find where on the trunk or harness they were attached, do you have any pictures or resources you could point me too.
