Old tea set from 1813

I had to stop a friend from selling this set in a garage sale the other day when I noticed it had a stamp from 1813. Does anyone know anything about this type of set and did I give him good advice?

It seems to say "India" above the number. I've seen post-WW2 items from India with the same kind of "dot-punched" markings so I'm pretty sure it isn't all too old, unfortunately.

E1813 is likely a model number or something like that, it is unlikely that it is a date. I don't know a lot about silverware, but did some research here lately, and here is what I found. If its sterling it should be marked as such. If not marked, odds are very high that its plate. Plate generally has little value, even though there are some beautiful plated pieces. So first of all, ascertain whether its plate or sterling.
