Old tree.

Found this old tree back in the woods near the well and ditch. I can tell there was an old drive way or road lined with stones leading up to the area of this tree. Look close at the 2nd picture. There is a heavy gauge iron wire with the end bent into a hook imbeded in the branch about 10 feet up. I got a lot of MD signals around this tree but have not had time to dig. Any thoughts?

This dirt mound is about 20 feet off the side of the big knob on the big tree.

I think in your part of the country large trees were many times used and left to mark property corners. Old deed would read like so many rods to large sycamore tree with stone marker or carvings. Fences were usually attached there too making for alot of wire and scrap. Just a possibility.

seriously, I have found alot of trees with wire in and around them. Thats a good sign, I would check the area out.

Sometimes people that wanted to bury their money or family treasures would bury them at the base of a tree. To remember the exact spot they would put a marker in the limbs above the hidden spot. Perhaps the wire is pointing down to buried money ? Get to digging

That is an old Indian ghost tree and it is rumored by tribes that it awakens at night and slips around to take small children who do not obey their parents. They use to chase me nearly every night as I was an undisciplined child. Actually, just looks like and old tree, possibly struck by lightening at one time giving it its odd shape. Monty

Is there a yellow brick road nearby? The first pic looks like something from the Wizard of Oz.
Actually, I have trees on my property with old fencing wire embedded in them--the trees grew right around the wire. There was a farm on my property about 150 years ago.
