I heard that it is going to be 0 degrees here tommarow. I had to go outside and detect! I went out to my yard which i have hunted so many times. I used my ACE 250. A little bit of snow covered the ground of the 100 year old yard. Today has been a lucky day. I headed out and got a fairly strong signalat 6 inches. My first hit of 2007! I dug down and ran the MD over the empty hole... no signal. I tested the mound of dirt and got a strong penny hit! I sifted my finger through the top and out came a corroded penny! From 6 inches down. I checked the back, it locked old, i rubbed it and saw that it was a wheat cent! I ran inside and washed it off. 1922 (no mint mark?). This date sounded special for some reason....hmmmm.... oh yeah, its a key date!!! I checked my red book... $9 in G if its just 1922. $450 in G if its 1922 no mintmark. And $35 is G if its 1922 weak D. YIPEE!!! To bad its corroded. But still, one of my best finds!

THANKS FOR LOOKING AND HH!

UPDATE: After trying out the hydrogen peroxide, it worked great by the way (THANKS GC!), i checked the date again, and i can see the faint curves of an 8 in 1928. Oh well. Still a cool find.

Do you have a better close-up of the coin? I'd love to see the date. If it's a 1922 plain, it is one heck of a coin!

Re: old yard + MD + 10 min. = 1922 KEY DATE WHEAT!!!

THanks everyone!

Buckleboy: Sorry, i cant get any closer. My camera goes in a little closer, but then it gets realy fuzzy. The scaner is the imamge i posted. Its even hard to read with just my eyes because of the corrosion. But, under magnification it is in fact a 1922, and I cant see a mint marc. But, because its so badly worn and corroded you just cant tell. So, at most its probably worth $20, but thats still great!

ok, i think you are really against cleaning, but, i've had good success with hydrogen peroxide or salt and vinigar. both have minimal effect and you can easily control how much corosion to get off. very nice find!

its a buck at walmart for a liter or so. look in the medical isle in anticeotics (BE CAREFULL NOT TO EXPOSE YOUR SKIN TOO LONG TO THE DIRTY H2O2, OR IT WILL KILL THE TOP LAYER OF SKIN)

(BTW, i used it on my rare 1857 large cent and it help it a bit)
