IMG_3605.webpA little afternoon metal detecting in one of the old yards at a home soon to be demolished yielded my oldest NJ License Plate to date-1921. This one has only numbers and no preceding county initial. All cleaned up, painted, and hanging on the bottom of my collection. Also found an old buckle? of sorts and a Divine perfume bottle.IMG_3596.webpIMG_3603.webpView attachment 1354854IMG_3608.webpIMG_3609.webpIMG_3610.webp

Nice finds. One of my best finds without a metal detector is a stainless steel Delaware plate I found in a bottle dump in the woods

Very nice! The oldest plate I've found in decent shape is from 1930. Glad to see you had fun with it and painted it. I soak mine in citric acid to remove most of the rust and then give them a couple of coats of clear coat paint, which helps to keep the rust from coming back.

Congrats on another nice old license plate. I really like the way you display them.

Any older and it would have been leather. heh

NICE FINDS MOSH .

Trezurehunter, To remove the rust from my old license plates I use Loctite naval jelly rust dissolver (photo) which I bought at Lowes. After initially wire brushing and hosing off the plate I apply the jelly with a brush and let sit for about 10 minutes or so. I then hose off the plate and if necessary repeat the process. It works pretty good. I then spray paint with rustoleum and hand paint the numbers and letters also with rustoleum.IMG_3615.webp
