Oldest site completed & lunch hunt buckle

Beautiful sunny 45 degree day yesterday. Made it out at lunch to a site that is not super old but produces goodies every hunt.


My guess is around 100 years old, but really like this sash buckle, maybe Lady Liberty?

Had some time this am before I have to catch a flight to Vancouver. Decided to put together a group shot of my oldest site. I now have around 30+ hours into this small 50’x30’ patch of park woods. The typeset “K” was the only relic recovery in the last three 45 minute hunts. So calling it complete. At least until I have some new gear or setting or technique...



A buddy pulled a NJ state coin here and 4 or 5 more buttons. I wish I new more about this site, but really just a random site in the woods with no visible stones, bricks or cellar depression.

Nice display from that site. Some of my oldest and best sites had not a single trace of stone foundation depression etc.

You would not even find them if it wasn't for gps and the detector to tell you there is iron in the ground.

Cabin sites that's what they are. Let it sit for a bit and it will cough up something again in the future.

Nice group shot of your finds from your best/oldest site. I have hunted lots of sites from that period, 1780s - 1810 or so. Like yours, there is no evidence that a cabin or house ever stood there except for what is in the ground. But unlike yours, none of mine ever produced a GW Inaugural

Those finds should be in a dedicated display case.

Thx Steve. I made a solid effort to find the other half of your button. Not even 22’s or shotgun head stamps left. Still plenty of strong iron signals, but that is it. I’ve dug all the iffy’s and then some. It must be too deep, under the fence or under a piece of iron.
