Hey everyone,
I managed to get out yesterday for my first hunt if 2016. I went looking in a cornfield for one specific early 1800s homesite. I ended up finding that site and found ANOTHER homesite on my way back to the car. The first homesites total was: a few buttons, 2 1864 IH, the escutcheon hunk and this BEAUTIFUL engraved solid silver broach (or something like that). It has the initials "GD" on it. The second site produced about 15 more buttons (3 blowhole), the little strap guide/belt slide, the watch key, a broken bel, a crusty liberty cap lc, an 180? Draped bust LC, a classic head half cent and a bent KG III copper. All in all a productive day! I couldn't believe the ground wasn't more frozen than it was.!

Id say youre on the board!! Thats a nice haul. Now if the snow would finally melt out here.

You had quite a hunt, , that silver brooch is really an excellent find.
Congrats

STELLAR hunt!!! Wow! Are you finding these sites on old civil war era maps?

The variety is amazing! The brooch is a gorgeous hunk of silver, the watch wonder is very cool as well. I also like my coppers. ;) congrats on a great hunt!

That bent KG could be a Love Token

Thanks Isaac! Yes the site that I was initially looking for was on an 1862 map but the other was not documented anywhere that I could see. My guess is that it was torn down before any maps came out for this area. Thanks again!

Damn, talking about getting out of the gate early! WTG!

Thats my kind of hunt. Kudos! :occasion14:

Very nice hunt. The coppers are nice, but that monogrammed hunk of silver is just killer. relics too. WOW, you did really well.

** I have heard about coppers bent into an "S", as a love token... Dakota Sioux may be on to something.

Nice digs, if it helps you dating the site at all , the small piece of pottery is feather edge blue and dates between 1820-40 period. Also the silver piece seems to be a piece attached to something bigger, like a horse button or something or inlayed silver logo from a chest or wooden document box. The marks on the back seem to big for broach attachment points, just a thought.

Heck of a day! I love the GD silver piece. Might have went on a chest or box. Great assortment overall. I smell Spanish silver in those fiields. And it's always nice to see the blow hole buttons popping out. You know your in the mid 18th century then.

The liberty cap is an early one with lettering. I'd try to clean that one in peroxide. Might be a good 1!

I'm liking the silver brooch.

That Lib Cap is a great find that I'm still looking for. Hope to see this one cleaned as it may be a scarce one. You're in some early dirt brother. Those blowholes tell a good story about the area

Nice Liberty cap. It's great when they have lettering still on the rim. I've only dug one and it makes me want to dig another one (except the ground it frozen and they're rare) doh!!!

Big congrats

Dang. Good virgin spot, that brooch might've been a seated $1, or a spoon , idk , sweet tho

Those are some awesome digs! Congrats!

Interesting stuff there, awesome silver brooch.
