On Monday we scored permission for a few hundred acre property next to a CSA winter encampment. The camp is suspected to be on the adjoining property, Im still working on the courage and proper timing to score the green light for the camp.

We hit some low fields near a river, most of the day was silent I broke the ice with the fired bullet, i suspect its a variant of a Sharps .54 or .56cal someone correct me if im wrong. My digging partner located a bullet a few fields over i believe it was a southern manufactured .54cal 3-ringer. I also located a metal stirrup, unsure if it is CW on not, if it is help on ID is appreciated.

I also located the strange piece of metal, as i almost placed it in my trash pouch i took a 2nd look and realized i may have found a lock plate. I dont believe it is from a cap and ball maybe a flintlock. A little bent maybe from a plow. Again if anyone has any suggestions please chime in.

I apologize for the late posting. Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Forgot to add this to show what a complete lock plate would resemble

Wow great pieces of History I would love to hunt an area like that and that old . Hope the permission works out Thanks for the great post!!!! Tommy

Looks like a dropped Richmond labs CS sharps your close, go get the green light for the camp.

Yes, that is a stirrup. The lock plate goes to a flintlock musket. Not a percussion musket. The flash pan is still on it. Many were converted to percussion during the war. I may be wrong but that may be a Richmond sharps bullet.

Congratulations on the nice relics! :occasion14:

What a place.. Hope you score the adjoining property.. Great pulls for the ground.. :icon_thumright:
