One Big Nest

I'm not sure what made a nest in this tree, but, it's pretty big. the tree itself is about 3 1/2 ft around, which is extremely big for a cedar here in Ks

That is big, how high off the ground?

it's only about 12 ft, but nobody has been there in about ten years, except to farm the ground around it

Herons build nests like those, but usually higher up.

we do have herons here. but they are the small gray heron. and the nearest water is about a half mile away but that's the river

Neat picture, it seems kinda low for a bird nest, unless maybe it's a hawk nest!

that could be, we have a lot of hawks around here

Could it be a crane, we have cranes some not alot and not all the time out at the lake?

How big around is it? Possably some kind of hawk or eagle.

ballpark, about 2 1/2 - 3ft across

Not sure what built that one but you can bet a family of squirrels live in it now or either a good fat possum.

I didn't see any evidence of nesting materials in it, so I'm thinking it's kind of old.
when I get back there I'll double check
