Sorry for the video and audio quality on that. The old IPod Touch isn't the greatest tool for that, but it's just so small and easy to carry in my pocket, lol.
Anyway, I got out in my old reliable field after lunchtime and the deer hunters had left. As I said in the video, I had never found coins in the farthest end of the field, but I thought I was going to concentrate on it anyway. First find was one of the modern copper jacketed bullets. Last find was the other one. In between, I found the odd little gold gilded item. I have posted a couple pics of it on " What Is It " forum, so maybe between there and here, Someone will tell me what it is. The LC is typical for this field ~ toasted beyond recognition. I guess Tom and Beez STILL don't know what one looks like if they have to use this as an example lol! Other 2 items are flattened old round balls. Thanks for looking and I hope someone can ID the little oddity.
For those that like the dirty pics

Any day with a largie is a good day.

Any Copper is good OD. Is that part of a cufflink? Dman & I had a rain out this am.WTG, Q.

Congrats on the LC. I recently found my first after 30+ years.

Nice putting in the effort in that field and snagging up some goods, that gilded item has me intrigued,

Nice hunt!

Good job Dave...Is that a button??
It looks cool and old....
And Tom knows what LCs look like...lol.

I agree with you. I had a smile when I saw it!

Thanks Mr. Q. I am leaning toward a cuff link. Hope it is old!

Congrats on your first! I didn't even know what an LC was until I started this hobby, so I am very pleased with the amount I have found in the just under 2 years I have been doing this.

Thanks Chris. I almost texted you but thought that might be cruel and unusual punishment since you had to work, lol!

Thanks George. My first thought was it was a button after I wiped some dirt away and saw gold gilding. Then once I got home and cleaned the dirt away from the " shank ", I just don't know. Never saw one like that, so I think ( hope ) maybe part of a cuff link. I have never found anything except KG's, LC's and round balls in this field with any age. I have always thought it odd there hasn't been a single button there. Hope it's old, whatever it is. Gonna need some expert cleaning advice once I get it identified. Electrolysis or hot HP?

Im leaning towards cuff link also..
Put it in lemon juice for 5min at a time..
And brush it lite..The gold will really pop
Whats left..

SAM_0789-1.webpsee the cufflink above the clay marble, I found that earlier this year, the back of your mystery item comes to a point kind of like my cufflink does, i think urs is a cufflink w the end broken off

Does yours have the same 2 footed attachment on it at the base?
I was reading Buckleboy's post on cleaning gilded metals, and he said do NOT brush it or use water. Guess tomorrow I need to look for naval jelly.

The naval jelly works great but be very careful and just roll it across with a saturated qtip. Just for short sessions then rinse off with water and some soap to neutralize. Cuff links are one of my favorite finds. That's a great way to end the season my man

End the season? Heck, I'll get in a few more hunts, lol. Still have half of that end of the field to do, so if the hunters cooperate, I will be there tomorrow. Got a new permission yesterday in a good area that has some woods along a canal that predates the railroads, so the possibilities are there. Does IP know anything about dating cuff links, lol?

Nice hunt! Always nice to pull a big green LC out of the soil. That one mystery piece is interesting.

Thanks Steve. Any ideas on it?

You're out, you're finding, you don't need a jackhammer to dig. Seems you're doing just fine!

Funny though, it seems as if old, toasted coppers have become a bit blasé, ya know? :icon_scratch:

One thing I believe I just might try different next year is to go for quality. Who knows?
It might even work! LOL

Nice saves!

I tried to find that cufflink in my box of finds, I have em all separated but couldn't find the darn thing, but i remember 2 sides coming together and meeting at the top w the ball attached to the end

Dave, I like the video, especially the cameo of Tom and Beez, your LC looks like a Coronet (nice) It looks just like the one Carolina Tom found down there where he swears they can't be found.
Good work, way to get out there!

The ground here is still perfect, Gary. Not too muddy in most places but yet still wet so it will clump together....perfect for field hunting. My oldest coin to date has come from this field and actually was the very first big copper I ever found just over 1 year ago now. Every time I turn over one of these, it brings back that memory, you know?

Thanks for trying Chris. Hopefully someone can give a definite answer

Thanks Brad. I am going to get some naval jelly today for the mystery item if I can. Will give the LC another try too. So far tooth picking hasn't helped a lot. May just break out the old electrolysis setup for this just to see if I can get anything at all. Not like I'll be losing anything on this one lol.

Dave, if it was me I'd try oil on the lc not zap it. I have used straight lemon juice for about twenty minutes.I did that to that last button I found that had so much gold gilt to it.
