Today at lunch I stopped into a HSBC and asked if they had any Susie B.s (that's my way to disguise that I'm looking for silver as well as other collectible coins/currency). The teller says no but he has quite alot of halves. Of course I asked how many, hopefull he wasn't going to say $500, and he replied $16.50 worth. I say I'll take them and he sets them out on the counter. The totals:

16 x 1964
17 x 40%ers

I was stunned.

The teller next to him had $90 in rolls which I took as well. My hopes were riding high... but they were Skunks!

Big win for me anyway.

Hopefully you'll all have a day like mine tomorrow. Good luck!

that's a great find - and nearly half 90% too! :icon_thumright:

It sure seems to be that way sometimes - the less there is to search.....the more you find. :)

I'd much rather have a teller tell me they have $16.50 in halves than $500 too - unless maybe if the $500 was a sealed box. But I've still never found a sealed box at a bank that I didn't order.

great score Jack!

...and you get my patented "YATZEEEE!"

H$H!!

Sounds good but why not just ask for halves? :icon_scratch: Many people do. I've never asked for Susan B. Anthonys and never will.

I don't lead in with a request for halves because tellers in my part of the woods tend to take a "here's another silver hunter" as they roll their eyes attitude. Super not helpful and start talking fees to sell back coins in quantity. But if I ask about Susie Bs then they see me as a more legit coin collector. As a matter of fact, I actually had a teller that had refused to part with her silver halves offer to sell me a couple after we talked about the Susie Bs for a few minutes.

Besides, in the $100 or so of Susie Bs I've picked up, I've found 5 '79 wide rim/near dates. Those have sold for a nice little profit.

had a teller get rude and say " I looked through all the rolls ..ur not finding any silver here " so she gave me $ 80 ( 8 ) rolls........found about 34 % 40 and 2 % 90 ! ! geuss she doesnt know what she was talking about !! lucky me

I always refuse the Susys and Gold dollars, my standard answer as of late for the gold dollars has been "Yuck! the Government doesn't even want those anymore."

Congrats :whip2: Tell them you also look for those aluminum coins to. :laughing7:
